Washington State Patrol is investigating a shooting on I-5 early Tuesday near Kent.

Trooper Rick Johnson told KIRO Radio that two men were shot around 1 a.m. on Tuesday while driving to work, heading north on I-5 near the State Route 516 exit. Two separate cars fired shots onto the left side of the victim’s car, a black 2005 GMC Yukon.

“Victims were traveling northbound and the first unknown dark-colored passenger car came up on the left side, fired shots, continued. Then a second unknown vehicle came up on the left side and fired additional shots,” Johnson said.

The driver had been struck in the left shoulder, and his passenger was hit in the forearm. Officers used combat gauze and tourniquets to treat the victims, who were both conscious and alert, until medics arrived.

Both victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

State Patrol says the shooting appears to have been random.

There are no details on the suspects at this time. The victims weren’t able to provide a description of the vehicles other than to say they were passenger cars.
