The Puget Sound area is in the midst of another heat wave with temperatures expected to be very warm through Saturday.

The region is also approaching the top records for consecutive days without measurable rain.

Breakdown of records set during Washington’s heat wave

Seattle officially reached 91 degrees on Thursday, which means it’s the warmest day of the month so far and temperatures climbed even higher on Friday. A Heat Advisory was issued for areas around Monroe, North Bend, and Enumclaw where forecasters say the highs could reach the mid 90s. Already, areas on the Eastside have reach 94. North Seattle reached 92 degrees.

Saturday is expected to be a little cooler than Friday, but still warm. The NWS says marine air will move in Sunday to force temperatures back down to “near normal.”

Thursday marked the 45th straight day without measurable rainfall at Sea-Tac Airport (where all official NWS measurements are taken). If that trend holds through Friday, that will mark the fourth longest streak on record for the area. Without any rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future, there’s a chance that the all-time record of 55 days could be broken as well.

KIRO 7 meteorologist Morgan Palmer says we may notice some haze from smoke to the south starting Friday and lasting through Monday. However, the smoke is expected to remain elevated across Puget Sound skies and shouldn’t be a problem for lowland air quality.
