Not only did Pacific Mayor Cy Sun stay away from this week’s full-house city council meeting, he might have left town.
The write-in mayor has been a lightning rod in the small, financially struggling south King County town, which is on the verge of disincorporation. He’s fired city employees and Pacific’s finances are in shambles.
Mayor Sun missed this weeks’ city council meeting which focused on a possible annexation to the city of Auburn.
Now, a source tells KING 5 that Sun might have left town.
Pacific’s liability insurance carrier threatens to drop coverage by the end of the year, citing lack of confidence in the mayor although King County and Pierce County have promised to provide some services, temporarily.
Congressman Dave Reichert sent a letter to the insurance carrier asking for an extension of six months to allow for the process of incorporation or possibly, the recall of the mayor. Sun has appealed a recall effort to the State Supreme Court and until the high court rules, recall backers cannot collect signatures on a petition.
Over the weekend, Sun was caught stuffing mailboxes with a three-page letter defending his actions. In the letter, Sun blamed the City of Pacific’s problems on its city council.
