King County Executive Dow Constantine doesn’t practice what he preaches when it comes to COVID and masking. He’s the latest Democrat politician to violate COVID policies or guidance.

After endless lectures on the importance of masks, especially in crowded, small spaces, Constantine violated his own advice — and possibly the state and county’s indoor mask mandate.

Under newly-instituted state and county guidelines, you must keep masks on while indoors. You should also socially distance where possible and avoid crowded areas, regardless of vaccination status. When in front of journalists, Constantine wears masks. He must have forgotten his commitment to virtue signaling.

Dow Constantine maskless

Constantine tweeted a photo Thursday night. It was from a campaign event with the University of Washington’s Vice President of External Affairs, Randy Hodgins. They are not wearing masks. After I published this piece, Constantine deleted the tweet and photo without explanation.

It’s unclear if this event is fully indoors or has one permeable wall outside the photo’s view. Indoor venues are subject to the mask mandate. Under King County guidelines, you should strongly consider wearing a mask if you cannot socially distance yourself outdoors. No one in the room is socially distancing, and no one is wearing a mask.

Constantine’s behavior — and that of the event’s attendees — conflicts with his own advice, too.

Under threat of the Delta variant, Constantine has implored us to: “Wear a mask, socially distance, and wash your hands.” Just days ago, he warned King County residents that “COVID continues to adapt and become stronger – and so must we.” It’s why he’s bringing vaccine passports to the county.

Will Constantine learn? Nope

Like many other Democrat politicians who have either broken their own rules literally, or the spirit of the rules, Constantine finds himself trying to live a normal life. I don’t blame him.

COVID mandates are oppressive, particularly to the vaccinated residents who were previously told they could return to normalcy after the jabs. We were lied to. We all want to get back to normal.

Instead, Constantine has become more authoritarian. Though now we’re told vaccines do not protect you from contracting or spreading COVID, you’re mandated to get the shots as a condition of employment for certain jobs. And soon, he’ll force you to show your vaccine passport to visit many businesses.

Constantine could have insisted on social distancing at the event, but he chose not.

While he was safe attending that event as is, his mandates pretend or assume he wasn’t. When you don’t abide by their rules or guidance, you’re publicly shamed. Constantine should either let up on some of his onerous rules or suffer the same insufferable lectures he forces on you when he thinks you’re too casual towards the threat of COVID.
