The city of Tumwater is working toward boosting the local economy by becoming a center for craft brewing and distilling.
On Tuesday, Governor Inslee visited students studying the industry at South Puget Sound Community College, which is the first place in the country to offer an associate degree in craft brewing and distilling.
“It’s yet another Washington state innovation to help to build our economy,” Inslee said about the associate degree program.
The governor also toured the restored Olympia Beer plant at the base of Tumwater Falls.
“It’s really a gorgeous building. It has been, essentially, stabilized,” Gov. Inslee said. “We’ll stand ready to listen to new proposals to move forward, and I’m just glad that we have kept this portion of Washington’s tradition alive.”
