Seven E. coli cases in Washington linked to packaged salads

The state Department of Health has confirmed that Washington is part of an E. coli outbreak affecting six states.
The seven cases of E. coli found so far in Washington are likely linked to Simple Truth Organic Power Greens sold at QFC and Fred Meyer stores. Consumers who have this product with a best-by date through Dec. 20 should get rid of it.
The local E. coil cases have all occurred in the Puget Sound region, in King, Snohomish, Whatcom, Pierce, Thurston, Mason, and Skagit counties. One individual from each county became ill in late November to early December. Two were hospitalized and one person developed a type of kidney failure. No deaths have been reported.
People usually become sick from E. coli two to eight days after exposure. Those who have eaten the product and feel ill should consult their health care providers.
Symptoms of E. coli include diarrhea (often bloody) and abdominal cramps. Most people recover within a week, though some illnesses las longer and can be more severe.
Five other states — Oregon, California, Ohio, Mississippi, and Alaska — have also had infections.
