Three TSA agents are being hailed as heroes after rescuing two people from a fiery car crash on I-5 last week.
The BMW M3 cruised into the grass median and smashed into a concrete utility box near S. 304th S. early in the morning on Aug. 4. The three Transportation Security Administration agents on their way to work jumped out of their car to help.
Two of them pulled the driver, a 21-year-old Joint Base Lewis-McChord man and his 29-year-old female passenger, from the car before it burst into flames. The third TSA agent called 911.
“Once a vehicle catches fire really well, and the surrounding area catches fire, it just doesn’t stop until something stands in the way,” said Washington State Trooper Julie Judson. “Without that intervention…they definitely could have had some loss of life or at least very severe burns.”
The driver and passenger were injured in the crash, but possibly escaped death with help from the three good Samaritans.
The driver, who Judson says is under investigation for drunk driving, faces a Vehicular Assault charge because of the injuries to his passengers.
