A man climbed a crane in downtown Seattle, on Friday afternoon. Seattle police got him to safety after nearly an hour of negotiations. AM 770 KTTH’s Jason Rantz detailed the scene live on his Twitter feed @JasonRantz.
The man is throwing objects from the crane. He’s a little over halfway up it. pic.twitter.com/qubnQmcfsm

By my count, there are roughly 20 officers on scene. Unfortunately, this means they’re short staffed elsewhere.
He’s been up there for over one hour. Negotiators are on scene.

After a brief discussion, officers are moving somewhat out of sight to perhaps diffuse some of the man’s agitation? pic.twitter.com/nHHXCat0ep

He’s standing now. More yelling. pic.twitter.com/VVYZWSczSV

He’s getting reckless. He’s climbing down one level but purposefully shaking the ladder. pic.twitter.com/knz7ix7a5h

Three are going up. Can’t tell who is an officer versus firefighter. The man got agitated and they stopped. pic.twitter.com/vWfEfxIczt

This is obviously dangerous work. They’re being methodical as they ascend. pic.twitter.com/SOm01JEibR

I believe there are three cops on the roof to the construction site talking to him. He is yelling to leave him alone. pic.twitter.com/Tf99kMhPFW

Good news: looks like he’s coming down. pic.twitter.com/fV8DFI3bvV

He stopped. It appears like he’s negotiating for a cigarette and now he’s going back up. pic.twitter.com/PfAHVZsuwW

He’s asking people to wave at him. And he’s coming back down again. But then stops and throws things again. pic.twitter.com/TWz3TpZhjO

Witness tells me the man was originally nude so the police got him clothes. People here are cheering on him to come down. pic.twitter.com/pFlsCD4EIW

Negotiator requested the crowd not engage or he’ll turn his attention to them, instead of towards the cops.

He took off his shirt. He’s still screaming to leave him alone but he came down to the third story, which is huge progress. pic.twitter.com/J7W30clM7S

Amazing and patient job by officers, especially those who volunteered to climb up. It was dangerous, but they did it anyway.
The man was just put in the ambulance. pic.twitter.com/dyWPnB6pjW
