Monroe High School student charged with hate crime, choking and homophobic language

A 16-year-old Monroe High School Student has been charged with a hate crime after choking a 14-year-old student and saying homophobic things to him.
In April, two students approached a 14-year-old, teasing him, and calling him “small” and “gay.”

The 14-year-old was then put into what he described as a chokehold by the older boys reporting that it became difficult to breathe.
School security reported the incident to Monroe Police two days later and Snohomish County prosecutors charged the attacker with a hate crime and second-degree assault. Both charges are felonies.
The same student was charged with second-degree assault for another incident in January, reportedly attacking another student unprovoked in a nearby park,
