The 2022 Field of Dreams Game between the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds started with a game of catch between one of the most famous father-son duos in baseball history, Ken Griffey Jr. and his father, a distinct homage to the film’s final moment.

Griffey Sr. played for the Reds for nine seasons, where he won two World Series and was named to three All-Star teams. His son went on to play for the Reds for nine seasons after an illustrious career with the Seattle Mariners. 210 his 630 career home runs as a Red.
Both are enshrined in the Cincinnati Reds’ Hall of Fame.
The land around the Field of Dreams film site is being converted into an $80 million youth sports complex that will include nine fields, an indoor facility, team dorms, a hotel, an RV park, and multiple trails. Construction will keep the MLB game away next year, but the complex is set to be opened by 2025.
Nearly six million viewers tuned in and watched MLB’s debut Field of Dreams Game last year in what turned out to be the sport’s largest regular-season audience since 2005.
