A Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper shot a 34-year-old man Wednesday evening near a Federal Way Costco Wholesale, sending the man to Harborview Medical Center in unknown condition.

The shooting resulted from an “altercation” after a traffic stop in the 34800 block of Enchanted Parkway S, according to Meeghan Black, a spokesperson with the Bellevue Police Department (BPD).

King County’s Independent Force Investigation Team is investigating the incident, and the role of relaying information about its findings was awarded to the BPD.

Details of the investigation are scarce Thursday morning: the scene of the shooting was cleared around 6 a.m.

The 34-year-old allegedly crashed into at least one other vehicle before or after the shooting, according to Black.

The trooper was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave under WSP policy.
