Report: Microsoft Office is coming to the Apple iPad

Feb 26, 2012, 10:41 AM | Updated: 12:01 pm

Apple and Microsoft have been competitors for decades but that may change soon according to “The Daily“.

Inside sources told the publication that a Microsoft Office iPad application is expected to be submitted to Apple for approval in the near future. The most popular Microsoft Office software — PowerPoint, Word, and Excel — will be included in the app and can be created and edited straight from the iPad.

Tech expert Todd Bishop says “it’s like Barack Obama becoming the president of Russia,” in response to Microsoft Office’s impending arrival on the Apple iPad.

“It’s not going to be great, it’s going to be somewhat less full featured than the real Office, but you are going to see Microsoft Office on the iPad,” Bishop said during this weekend’s edition of “Geekwire“.

Although it’s unclear whether or not Microsoft will support other Office apps, its introduction on the iPad is significant.

The design team has reportedly wrapped up the project, meaning the application could be released soon.
