More details are emerging about a man who was shot and killed last week at Westfield Southcenter mall in Tukwila.

Family and friends are rallying around the man’s wife, who was there when the shooting happened.

Mary Wesolowicz told KIRO 7 her husband was selfless, always putting others first, and in his final act, he did everything he could to save her.

Last Friday, Nov. 18, police vehicles swarmed the area after Chris and Mary Wesolowicz were shot in the mall’s parking garage.

Tukwila police said the couple interrupted a car theft and shortly after, the suspects began shooting.

“My husband yelled, ‘Hey, stop!’ and the guys that were trying to steal our car jumped into their car and my husband ran ahead to try to see them or get some sort of identifying information,” said Mary. “They started to drive and they hit him with the car, and then they just started open firing through their windshield at him.”

Mary said her husband tried to get her out of harm’s way.

“He rolled off the car and ran toward me and he yelled for me to run. I hit the ground. I was shot in my hand,” said Mary.

She said bystanders jumped in to help her husband while she called 911. Paramedics tried to save Chris, but he died at the scene.

“It doesn’t make any sense that someone else decided that a car was worth someone else’s life,” said Mary.

Loved ones are now rallying around Mary.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for funeral and medical expenses.

“It still doesn’t feel real,” said Mary.

Chris was only 30 years old, and in that time, Mary said he touched many lives and will always be remembered.

“He was an amazing man and he’s definitely always going to have left an imprint on this world,” said Mary.

Police are still searching for the suspects in the case.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Tukwila police.
