Garfield High School adds security after shooting near playground

Garfield High School will have additional security Tuesday in response to a shooting near campus.
A 17-year-old was wounded in the shooting Monday afternoon near the high school. KIRO 7 reports the school’s principal sent out a note Monday night, assuring parents there will be extra security.
Police say the teen walked into the Garfield Teen Life Center at 23rd Avenue and East Cherry Street just before 4 p.m. with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
Police say the suspect fled the area following the shooting. The suspect opened fire near a playground behind the school.
Police describe the suspect as an African-American teenager about 5 feet 5 inches tall.
There is no word on a motive.
The wounded teenager was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
