Seattle quintet Smokey Brights have, without a doubt, kept me interested and engaged since their inception several years ago. I’ve also been fortunate to have had several delightful chats with various members of the band over the years. However, just when I think I’m getting to know the group and their musical style, these five marvelously gifted people go ahead and create a record like Hot Candy. This album is off the charts something else. It’s jagged, upbeat rock and sexy, sad seventies that will turn, without warning, into a skittering, psychedelic, crushing crescendo climax. And that’s just scraping the surface. There are so many disparate levels of awesome happening within this album that if you listen, and then listen again, you just might begin to understand exactly what Smokey Brights are telling you.

Make sure to see Smokey Brights at Neumos this Friday for their Hot Candy album release show along with Radiation City and Sloucher.

NEW MUSIC: Charlie and The Rays release debut album

Charlie and the Rays' debut album is a sprawling pastiche of roots rock and pop. The self-titled album is a gem awash with vocal harmonies, hand claps, wailing guitar licks, and deep swells of emotion.
