A New York-based company is closer to bringing commercial flights to Everett’s Paine Field.

What are they building

The most recent court decision gives the company, Propeller Airports, three years to get a two-gate terminal built, KIRO 7 reports. The Court of Appeals found there was no reason to end an option-to-lease agreement between Snohomish County and Propeller.

The company reached an agreement with Snohomish County in 2015. However, community advocates have fought back, arguing that commercial flights will bring more traffic and noise.

Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson voiced her concern.

“I guess for the City of Mukilteo it’s a really significant issue and we’ve got real concerns about the noise and traffic impacts,” Mayor Gregerson said.

The most recent court victory for Propeller Airports clears the way for a terminal.

Previous reports show the company wants to build a 29,000-square-foot terminal that will include two gates and a passenger lounge. The Daily Herald reported there would be approximately 8,340 takeoffs and landings per year.

Even after designing and building a terminal, the company will have to secure an airline.

Mukilteo could again appeal the decision, but it would have to be filed in the next few weeks, KIRO 7 reports.
