A 15-year-old girl was shot and killed while walking with a group of friends in Lake Stevens.
A letter posted on the Bishop Blanchet High School website, from the Seattle school’s president, told parents and others in the community about the young victim who was on the soccer and lacrosse teams.
“One of our beloved ninth graders, Molly Conley, was killed,” writes President Antonio DeSapio. “She was the victim of a drive-by shooting near Lake Stevens, a terrible act of random violence. Several of her classmates were with her when this happened.”
Saturday night, Conley and five of her friends were in Lake Stevens to celebrate her birthday. Around 11:30 p.m., they started walking down South Lake Stevens Road.
Police say someone in dark SUV shot Conley in the neck. She died at the scene.
DeSapio encourages parents to send their students to school as usual Monday.
“We have arranged for Counseling staff, Christian Ministry staff, faculty, and administration to be available and present to our students,” he says.
“Please join with me in expressing our sincere condolences and continued prayers for Molly, her brother John, a BBHS tenth grader, her sister Tara, her parents, and extended family including her cousins Joe and Pete Conroy also students at BBHS. Molly’s family has expressed how they loved her so very, very much.”
While her school community mourns, police are looking for the dark-colored SUV that might have been involved with other shootings over the weekend.
The shooting happened near South Lake Stevens Road and South Davies Road.
Lake Stevens police say they’re also looking into reports of numerous other possible drive-by shootings in the area which resulted in property damage.
They are urging people who may have information about the crime to call the Lake Stevens Tip Line, 425-377-3214, or the Snohomish County Major Crimes Unit, 425- 388-3845.
