KIRO 7 Meteorologist Nick Allard reports snow has been reported in Port Angeles, Tacoma, Federal Way, Kent, Pacific, Graham and other cities on the south end of the state.

“Most of everything has been light and will continue to be, but as this moisture moves south we could all see a few light snow/wet snow showers,” Allard wrote.”

A few isolated showers and plenty of sunshine are expected this afternoon.

Original story: Be prepared for slushy roads Thursday and Friday mornings. A mix of rain and lowland snow is expected to fall around the Seattle region over the next few days.

According to the latest weather models, there is a “slightly better chance of spotty snow showers,” as the work week wraps up, according to KIRO 7 Meteorologist Nick Allard.

Morning lows will hover around freezing on Thursday and Friday, according to Allard. KIRO 7 also reports that Sunday’s temperatures, wavering between 44 and 35 degrees, will also likely provide a slushy mix throughout the region. The highs hover between 43-45 degrees over the coming days, however, it’s the lows — stretching down to 32 degrees at times — that are causing concern for lowland snow.

The weather forecast:

• Thursday: Isolated rain and snow showers
• Friday: Mixed showers of rain and snow
• Saturday: Mostly sunny
• Sunday: Chance of rain and snow

Lowland snow potential

Though moisture will be limited on Thursday, the National Weather Service says light, scattered rain or snow showers are possible. In most cases, however, less than 0.10 of an inch of rain or snow is expected.

“The snow level will be around 400 feet Thursday morning, rise to 1,000 feet or so during the afternoon, and fall again overnight,” according to the Weather Service. “Snow accumulation should be zero or near zero.”

Though most precipitation will occur near the coast where the snow level will be around 1,000 feet, the National Weather Service says the snow level over the interior lowlands could be between 300 and 700 feet on Friday. But with limited precipitation in the interior lowlands, there isn’t much opportunity for accumulation.

“… precipitation amounts will, again, be mainly less than 0.10 inch,” according to the Weather Service. “So, in the end, it should be another cool day, with a few rain and snow showers, and zero or near zero accumulation.”

February rain record update

With precipitation being relatively low around Seattle this week, this February remains the fourth wettest on record.
