Undeveloped land worth millions up for sale in Seattle

May 9, 2017, 9:59 AM

Just what will happen now that an undeveloped 17.8-acre plot of land is for sale in Seattle’s hot housing market?

The Talaris campus in Laurelhurst now holds just a small conference center, offices, and a lodge, set amidst open space and water. The Seattle Times reports the site, in theory, could hold 80-90 single-family homes on 5,000-square-foot lots. The homes would be worth a total of $68 million, according to the Times.

Neighbors of the plot have traditionally been hostile to development. They had the parcel declared an official city landmark in response to plans to subdivide it in 2013.

Another effort by the owner to rezone the land for 300 apartments failed as well.

Several non-profit groups are also interested in the land; including one that wants to house an outdoor learning center, and another that wants to use it as a sanctuary for cancer patients dealing with emotional stress.

What are they building?
