Classes at The Evergreen State College are canceled again as police review “new external threat information” that was received over the weekend.
The school was evacuated Thursday after a man called 9-1-1, saying he was headed to campus with a gun.
“I am going to murder as many people on that campus as I can,” the man said after telling dispatch that he was on his way to campus with a .44 magnum.
That call kept the campus closed through Friday.
There are no details about the new threat, and school officials aren’t sure whether classes will resume Tuesday.
“Even though we had planned to be back in class on Monday, it’s important to give law enforcement an opportunity to evaluate their new information,“ said Sandra Kaiser, vice president for college relations at Evergreen.
The threats come after weeks of unrest on campus over rising racial tensions.
Since then, State Rep. Matt Manweller has called for the privatization of the college.
“At the end of the day, we the Legislature and the people have to speak up and say, ‘We are not going to contribute our taxpayer dollars to a college that wants to re-institute a Jim Crow approach to education and segregation,” Manweller told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson.
