Saturday is Record Store Day. This third Saturday in April has been marked as the day that artists, labels, and stores come together to celebrate your independent local record store.
“What Record Store Day was designed to be was a celebration of these stores and a reminder to the world that independent businesses, record stores included, are very important,” says Record Store Day co-founder Erick Levin.
Danny Van Hollbeck the Manager of Easy Street Records in Seattle says the in-store experience is much different than buying music online.
“It’s just not the same experience of going, talking to like-minded people who are into the same thing as you, somebody who works at a record store, who surrounds themselves with the music lifestyle all the time and getting suggestions from them.”
Over 700 independently owned stores throughout the country are celebrating Record Store day on Saturday and they’re offering some really cool deals.
Hollbeck says Easy Street will have lots of Record Store Day exclusive vinyl releases.
“We’re going to have bins and bins of exclusive 12″ and 7″ vinyl, lots of exclusive CDs from lots of independent artists that are doing stuff exclusively for Record Store Day to support independent record stores.”
Hollbeck also says most other merchandise at Easy Street will be available at 10 percent off.
