He’s been gone for nearly 40 years, but Jimi Hendrix fans have something new to celebrate.
A collection of never before released tracks on the new album “Valleys of Neptune” goes on sale Tuesday.
“The time is right for Hendrix to come calling again. There’s nothing greater for this city than to be able to say Jimi Hendrix is one of their own,” said Matt Vaughn, owner of Seattle’s Easy Street Records.
Vaughn said even he was surprised to hear music from Hendrix he’s never heard before.
“Bleeding Heart, Lover Man, Lulluby For The Summer,” those are songs I’d never heard before. He does some really cool renditions of some blues standards: Hear My Train A Comin’, Lover Man, which is loosely based off a Muddy Waters song.”
Some purists will argue they’ve heard versions of all these songs before, but Vaughn insisted this is the first time they’ve come out the way Jimi intended, rather than some slapped together collection of out-takes aimed at making a quick buck.
Vaughn said that should be enough to satisfy even the hard core Hendrix fan.
