Just as the Seahawks kept fighting until the end, as if they could win yesterday, lawmakers in Olympia are filing bills as if they will find money to support the legislation.
Medical use of cannabis, paying people who were wrongly imprisoned, privatizing the state ferry system, and outlawing smoking in vehicles if minors are present are among the hundreds of bills already introduced in Olympia.
Here are more of the laws proposed so far in the session:
House Bill 1004 would encourage schools to work “emotional, social” learning into the curriculum.
House Bill 1006 defines types of knives – slung shot, sand club, metal knuckles, as weapons.
House Bill 1017 mandates a 12 hour impound on the vehicle driven by someone arrested for driving under the influence.
House Bill 1030 requires felons to pay court-ordered financial obligations before restoration of voting rights.
Senate Bill 5016 says a person who smokes a lighted pipe, cigar, or cigarette in a moving or parked motor vehicle containing any passengers under the age of 18 is guilty of a traffic infraction.
Senate Bill 5054 is a gender-based bill that would strike the word “chairman” and replace it with chair.
I must be a legislation geek because I find these proposed bills endlessly fascinating to read. You can too – here’s the bill status report link.
