Blonde, bubbly actress Hayden Panettiere has been transformed into a sullen, serious UW student convicted of murdering her roommate in Italy.
Filming is underway for a movie about Amanda Knox – the young West Seattle woman who was on a UW exchange program to study in Perugia, Italy. On November 1, 2007, her roommate Meredith Kercher was found semi-nude with her throat slashed in their apartment.
Knox, her Italian ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, and another man, Rudy Guede, were accused of sexually assaulting and brutally murdering Kercher. Guede was convicted in October of 2008 of the sexual assault and murder of Kercher. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison. On appeal, his sentence was reduced to 16 years. Knox and Sollecito were found guilty of murder, sexual violence and other charges in December of last year. Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison, while Sollecito received 25 years.
Knox has always claimed she is innocent, and her sentence is being appealed.
Photographers on the movie set in Italy have captured a chilling recreation of some of the scenes involving Knox and her then-boyfriend Sollecito.
The Splash News photo above on the left is Panettiere, best known for her role as a cheerleader on “Heroes” and actor Paolo Romio. The photo on the right is a screen grab from a video of Knox and Sollecito.
The scene they’re capturing is from hours after Kercher’s body was discovered and he was seen kissing and comforting her. Knox and Sollecito had only known each other for about six days before the murder.
News reports focused on how bizarre it seemed that the two were affectionate in front of news crews as they were being brought in for questioning after Kercher’s murder. The infamous kissing shot was taken before they were arrested as suspects. Italian and British tabloids nicknamed her “Foxy Knoxy.”
The Lifetime TV movie, “The Amanda Knox Story,” will air sometime next year.
