Who’s Telling The Truth?

Most of the x-mailers who responded to the Governor’s interview were unmoved by her budget cuts, and several wanted it cut further. Among other things, they accused her of lying about cutting off funds to illegal immigrants (shocking!)

Here’s what the DSHS page says about medical benefits:

U.S. citizens must prove citizenship and identity to receive Medicaid…. Proof includes but isn’t limited to:

Proof of Citizenship
U.S. passport.
Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship.
Tribal membership card with picture.
Official state/county U.S. birth certificate.

I encourage someone to try to file without proof of citizenship and tell me what happens.

(Frankly, what makes this state an immigrant magnet — besides farmers, restaurants, and just about every other business involving actual physical labor — are all the Christian do-gooders who seem to think everyone is a child of God even if they don’t have papers. Wise up Christians! Why would God send His only Son if not to check our papers?)

If the Republicans catch the governor in any lies, they’re free to call her out. Although so far, they’ve either been quiet or downright complimentary, possibly because taxes are off the table, and a lot of the cuts are lifted from the website of the Evergreen Freedom Foundation. Among them:

– Higher university tuition
– Suspending state employee STEP increases
– Raising state employee health premiums
– Cutting the Arts Commission, state parks, Auto Theft Task Force
– Deporting non-citizen drug and property offenders

The biggest objection came from State Party Chair Luke Esser, who objected to canceling the 2012 presidential primary, saying it would “silence the voice of the brave members of the armed forces fighting for freedom.” But the troops are free to contact family and friends back home to attend the caucuses on their behalf. And the GOP is free to raise the money privately for a vote, just as Paul Allen did for his stadium. If they have trouble, maybe the churches would help. -DR
