It’s not a car “for you, and you, and you, and you,” but Oprah gave Microsoft’s hot new toy to every member of her audience.
Oprah featured Microsoft’s Kinect for the Xbox 360 on her show yesterday.
“It is so cool,” says Oprah. “Sensors pick up your body movements and instead of a remote control, it’s your entire body controlling the video games.”
Women in their 30s and 40s screamed wildly when she gave it away to every audience member.
Kinect is Microsoft’s response to Nintendo’s motion-controlled Wii gaming system. The Wii is a very family-friendly system, and Microsoft could be going after that non-hardcore gaming market by appearing on Oprah’s show. Talk host Ellen DeGeneres will also showcase the device later this month.
The company is already taking presales for the Kinect which will be available in early November, featuring 17 titles at launch. Earlier this week the Telegraph reported that Kinect supplies are “running low.” Will it be the must-have-but-you-can’t-find item for this year’s holiday shopping season?
The Kinect will be priced at $150 as a standalone device, while the bundle, including a 4 GB Xbox 360 and the Kinect, will be priced at $300.
