Gregoire will vote “yes” to tax on rich
Washington Governor Chris Gregoire says she will vote in favor of the ballot initiative to create an income tax for the state’s highest earners.
Gregoire said she has not been a fan of creating an income tax in the past.
“If I wasn’t in the economic crisis of a lifetime, I might choose otherwise, but I’m voting yes,” she says.
Gregoire says if Initiative 1098 fails, more cuts will be made to education. She tells reporters, “I cannot afford to lose our investment in the education of our children.”
If the measure passes, the Governor expects it to be challenged in court.
Tacoma city leaders are expressing their concerns about another measure we’ll vote on next month – the initiatives to end the state’s monopoly on liquor sales.
The Tacoma City Council has passed resolutions against Initiatives 1100 and 1105. They say bringing cheap alcohol to a city is not necessarily a good thing, and could increase crime.
