Microsoft’s company meeting is today at Safeco Field in Seattle. For most of us, that means avoid traveling in the downtown area before the staff meeting begins at 11 a.m., and again around 4 p.m. when the event is over and Microsofties pour into neighborhood bars.
Microsoft has about 40,000 employees in the Seattle area. Not all will go to the meeting today. Some employees say it’s a huge waste of time and money. A lot of employees think it’s a way to get energized about the company’s products and vision for the next year. And others go just to see what kind of entrance CEO Steve Ballmer will make.
This moment, from 2006, is the best Ballmer entrance ever:
Some of Microsoft’s former high-ranking employees won’t be at the latest Safeco meeting. But the company does have two exciting products on the horizon – Windows Phone 7, which will be in use in October, and the motion-sensitive Kinect for Xbox coming in November.
Reporters aren’t allowed at the company meeting, but I have learned Comedian Amy Sedaris is hosting.
