How to welcome home the Storm

StormThe Seattle Storm are the WNBA Champions! They beat the Atlanta Dream 87-84 last night for a three-game sweep in the WNBA finals. Seattle won each of its seven postseason games for its second WNBA title. The Storm also won in 2004.

Here’s how you can welcome home Seattle’s winning sports team:

Fans are invited to welcome the team home at Sea-Tac Airport later today. Delta flight 2129 is due to arrive at 1:20 p.m. Park in the main airport terminal parking garage, cross the skybridge and follow signs towards the South Ground Transportation Lot.

The parade begins at 7 p.m. at the Space Needle. it will head south on Broad Street, West on Denny Way and north on First Avenue to Key Arena’s West Plaza. Fans are encouraged to begin lining the streets starting from Key Arena’s West Plaza and working their way backwards along First Avenue towards the start of the parade route. The parade will be followed by a celebration inside Key Arena. It is free and open to the public. Enter through the west doors. Seating is first come, first served.

Someone who probably won’t be there to greet Seattle’s only winning team this year:

Jim Moore.

710 ESPN’s “Go to Guy” apparently doesn’t go to many Storm games and isn’t getting very enthused about their victorious season.

“I wanna be excited for the Storm,” Moore tells KING 5 TV. “Honestly, I haven’t embraced them like so many other people in town.”

He’s not alone with that opinion. Earlier in the season, I talked with the Storm’s MVP Lauren Jackson about whether it bothers her that a lot of people aren’t interested in women’s professional basketball.

“The sport is my life and to have the support and the fans that we do is just unbelievable,” Jackson says. “I’m not too stressed. I think in Seattle we’ve got a great ownership group. We’ve got great support and a great fan base, so it’s cool.”
