Big money in WA’s U.S. House races

In fewer than 100 days, people across the country will vote in the Midterm election with all 435 seats in the House up for election and 37 Senate seats. Democrats have the majorities in both the House and the Senate. Will it stay that way in November?
Republicans say the anti-Washington mood in the country isn’t necessarily directed at incumbents, as much as it is toward Democrats because of health care reform, financial services bailouts, and the stimulus plan. Democrats say, wait a minute, their policies have helped the country avoid another Great Depression. We are better off today than we were a year ago, they say.
What effect, if any, Tea Party have? They’re not as concerned about whether a “D” or “R” is in front of someone’s name. Washington leaders with the movement tell me they’re simply looking for the most fiscally responsible candidates.
Ballots for the August 17th primary are being mailed this week. My Election 2010 series continues Tuesday with a look at one of the most expensive House races in the country, and the only congressional district in Washington that has never elected a Democrat to represent them – the 8th.
