Facebook page for Seattle cop who punched a teen

A new Facebook page supports the Seattle Police officer who punched a teenage girl as he tried to arrest her friend for jaywalking.

The page, Support SPD Officer Ian Walsh, says “Inappropriate, offensive or attacking remarks will be deleted and you will be blocked.” And so far, more than 2,400 people have joined the group.

Some of the recent comments:

Robin: All I have to say is I believe that I would have had to punch her in the face more than once. I think it is a true testament to his restraint that he was able to detain both girls and only hit her once. That situation could have gotten really ugly, really fast and he did what he needed to do! I don’t consider that to be racism or police brutality but you know they are probably looking for a meal ticket and will be filing a lawsuit against him. Disgusting!

Vanessa: Those people were breaking the 2 golden rules for cops: you don’t mouth off to them, and you sure as hell don’t shove them.

Julie: If only the average citizen dare to walk a mile in any cop’s, firefighter, or even our soldier’s shoes and boots, one would come away from it with a totally different view and perspective. When parents, grandparents and guardians don’t teach and show respect not only for police, firefighters but also your everyday human being and the children and young adults in their care then this is when things get out of hand and people from all walks of life get hurt. Too bad the news media couldnt pony up and show the entire video on what preceded, and show the confrontation and the comments made by the videographer who taped this and sold it to the news outlets, maybe the public could understand and see the truth.

So far, I haven’t seen pages dedicated to supporting the 17-year-old girl who was punched.
