UPDATE 6/11/10 9:10 p.m.
It’s shaping up to be an interesting August 17, 2010 primary election in Washington.
Today was the filing deadline for candidates who want to be on the ballot in our state. You can follow these links to each county election site to see who’s running for offices in your area:
“So far, filing has been fairly consistent with past volumes and we are seeing more and more candidates take advantage of the convenience of online filing,” says Sherril Huff, elections director in King County.
The primary election features state senators and representatives, county offices, superior court and district court positions, and community initiatives. The most watched race will likely be the U.S. Senate contest with Incumbent Patty Murray, Dino Rossi and 12 other candidates including Mike the Mover – it’s been awhile since we’ve heard from him.
The full list of Washington candidates who are seeking election to state or national offices is here on the Secretary of State’s website.
I’m an election geek. I love the process. It’s fascinating to sort through politicians’ beliefs and proposals that get filtered through campaign commercials, pundits, and the media.
What about you?
Which races are you interested in? Which candidates will you support? How much of an impact do you think the Tea Party movement will have here? Will an anti-incumbent feeling in other parts of the country play a role in Washington state?
