Scarves up! Sounders FC single match tickets go on sale today, and this season there are new ways for fans to interact with each other and with the team.
The Sounders revamped their website last month to allow fans to add commentary through a forum. There are more than 23,000 posts in the forum. Interesting stuff. Someone with the screen name “Believer” recently commented that the Sounders are producing a new scarf for the first match of 2010. I can’t wait to see the design.
Fans can also contribute their own videos, photos and blogs. And the tool bar at the bottom of the page makes it easy to follow the team on Facebook and Twitter too.
Bill Chapin, the Sounders FC marketing director, says inviting fans to contribute to the website “stays consistent with our organizational theme of Democracy in Sports.”
The Sounders also acknowledge the world-wide interest in the sport with a Spanish language version of the website. They have registered users from over 20 Spanish-speaking countries so far.
The new website also offers an advanced video experience and will allow fans to download video to media devices such as the XBOX 360 or iPod. Sounders also have mobile features which will be available to fans by the first regular season home match later this month.
After clicking around the site for about a half an hour, it’s clear to me the Sounders get it with user-based, interactive social media. I don’t what to expect from the team this year, but their social media efforts are hot.
Who’s ready for soccer?
Sounders ’til I die!
