Donald Trump has announced that he’s running for President of the United States.
“You’re kidding?” Michael Medved asked AM 770 KTTH’s David Boze moments after hearing the news Tuesday morning. “I think this gives a terrific opportunity to literally hundreds of millions of Americans to do something we’ve always wanted to do, which is to vote Donald Trump off the island.”
Medved says the bottom line is, do you really want this guy’s finger on the nuclear trigger?
“We have a terrific race. We have a race that is gaining a lot of energy, that is gaining a lot of attention. I think the real test for Donald Trump would be whether he’s willing to spend money on this race.”
Medved said it would be dangerous for Trump to run third party or as an independent candidate. It’s not a terrible thing if he wants to run in the Republican primaries.
Trump’s announcement comes just a day after former Governor Jeb Bush announced his run for office.
“That could have been an announcement on the Democratic side,” Medved said. “It so much emphasized diversity and so much emphasized this new Republican push to have a more inclusive, more Republican party – where no one could ever say those things credibly about our party again.”
Bush’s announcement could have been made by a Democrat, Boze asked.
Medved said he thinks it’s true, but not so much his announcement. What really did sound like a Democrat was the 2-minute ad that his campaign release alongside the announcement.
“It was a parade of victims and a parade of people who were helpless but who had been rescued by Governor Bush,” Medved said. “He was a good governor of Florida, but it’s not going to appeal to conservatives to view human beings and American citizens as helpless victims and government is their only source of rescue.”
Medved said that if Trump campaigns in Florida, which is likely, it’ll hurt Marco Rubio.
