Russell Wilson is not one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, despite leading his team to the Super Bowl two years in a row.
Quarterback tier ratings were released by ESPN on Tuesday, placing Wilson at No. 8 overall and in the second tier.
The ratings were built upon a poll of coaches and evaluators of each of the 32 projected starters, according to ESPN. Tier 1 is for the best quarterbacks, Tier 5 is the worst. Tier 2, where Wilson was placed, describes those quarterbacks as “less consistent and need more help, but good enough to figure prominently into a championship equation.”

Wilson falls behind Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Andrew Luck, Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.
There’s got to be something wrong with the rating system, AM 770 KTTH’s David Boze believes.
“If you’re constantly ranking somebody as second tier and yet they’re finding a way to beat your first tier … that means there’s something wrong with your ranking system,” Boze said. “Or, maybe there’s some kind of intangible quality that’s a little better than you think.”
Maybe it’s a good thing Wilson is ranked in the second tier.
“Because that way, this year, Wilson can say well, I’m going to prove that wrong and maybe we’ll end up in the Super Bowl a third time.
“Wouldn’t that be great,” Boze said.
Who knows, maybe if Wilson continues to Eat the Ball he will have the strength to make it to a third Super Bowl.
