There are six new confirmed Hepatitis C cases linked to an outbreak at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department made the announcement Thursday afternoon, saying it raises the total to eight confirmed cases at the hospital.

A former nurse is accused of infecting patients with the virus by injecting them with contaminated needles, something she has denied. Cora Weberg admits she stole drugs from the hospital, but her attorney says it was because she was suffering from depression and was going to commit suicide. Weberg also said she doesn’t believe that she has the virus.

Weberg hasn’t been charged, but her nursing license has been suspended. She was arrested on May 4 on suspicion of second-degree assault, but released a day later, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

A man who contracted Hepatitis C after being treated at Good Samaritan is now suing the hospital. He’s one of 2,600 patients who may have been exposed to the virus.

Doctor Nigel Turner with the health department says there are three more probable cases.
