On Sunday, before the fun of the Super Bowl kicked in Ron & Don heard the heartbreaking news that Josh Powell had killed his children in well-plotted murder-suicide.

On Monday’s show, they examined the timeline events that lead up to the “act of evil,” and talked to those that had been following the case, some since Susan disappeared.

Attorney Anne Bremner has worked with the Cox family as they sought information on the what happened to their daughter Susan Powell. Bremner joined the show on Monday and said that grandparents Chuck and Judy wanted to believe in the system and comply with court orders.

“They wanted to make sure that they kept those kids safe, loved, and at their house, she said. “They’d lost their daughter, and they didn’t want to lose their grandchildren. They believed Josh killed Susan […] they did not want those children with the person that killed her, killed their mother.”

Detective Ed Troyer told the guys that Josh Powell’s planning was premeditated, “He did send out multiple emails to his pastor and relatives. It’s obvious he was getting ready to go somewhere and you take that in combination with locking the door and having gas ready to go in the house, we believe he planned this out. He planned it out for some time.”

Troyer added that the fire spread quickly, and there is nothing that the social worker, who had been locked out of the house by Josh Powell, could have done. “It’s not the gas, it’s the fumes. Once you spread it around and let the fumes linger in there and light it off, you pretty much turned your house into a small bomb.”

Ron & Don asked about why they the boys hadn’t been meeting at an alternative location? According to the Salt Lake Tribune, at least a few of the supervised visits did happen in the social worker’s offices, up until Nov. 2.

But Troyer said that an alternative meeting spot wouldn’t have mattered. According to Troyer, even if it wasn’t this particular visit or you had it in an alternate meeting spot, if he’s made this decision, it doesn’t matter how he did it, whether it’s gas or a gun.

“If the boys had information, now they become the evidence. What he did was destroy the evidence,” Troyer said.

During the show, West Valley City, Utah Police Chief Buzz Nielsen held a news conference near Powell’s Graham home. Nielsen said that the death of Josh Powell would not prevent them from continuing to investigate what happened to Susan Powell.

“Whatever we’ve done on a criminal case, on this case on this missing person, has nothing to do with Josh’s decision to do whatever he did here,” Nielsen said. “I’m optimistic, and I told the Coxs we’re not giving up, we want to get some closure here.”
