Man shot, killed by officer at SoDo Link light rail station after brandishing gun

One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon at the Link light rail station in SoDo at 5th and Lander.
Central Link service was suspended between the Beacon Hill and Stadium stations, Sound Transit reported. Passengers were being transported around the closure by bus.
The incident began around 4:10 p.m. when three unarmed fare-enforcement security officers contacted three passengers traveling southbound on Link light rail from the Stadium station. The men were asked to produce proof they had paid their fare. When one of the men could not, and all three were asked to get off the train at SoDo, Seattle Police Sgt. Sean Whitcomb said at the scene.
A verbal confrontation ensued, and the officers called for backup from sheriff’s deputies.
Upon arrival, a deputy fired several rounds at one of the men after he reportedly produced a handgun, Whitcomb said.
Other deputies attempted to perform CPR on the man, but he died at the scene.
The deputy involved in the shooting joined the force in 2002 and transferred to Sound Transit security in 2009, KIRO Radio’s Brandi Kruse reports.
The Seattle Police Department has taken the lead on the investigation at the request of the King County Sheriff’s Office.
Two Seattle Police officers responding to the scene were injured in a collision at 12th Avenue and East Spruce Street around 4:30 p.m. when they crashed into a town car and a taxi. The male and female officers and the drivers of the other cars were transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
