Bellevue police say woman falsely accused Marshawn Lynch, recommend charges

The Bellevue Police Department says investigators have determined that a woman falsely accused Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch of assault, and say there’s enough evidence to charge her with a crime.

“It doesn’t take a genius to see those glaring inconsistencies in her story compared to what actually happened in this case,” says Officer Seth Tyler.

Police began investigating after a 31-year-old woman claimed in August Lynch had assaulted her and damaged property.

Lynch, who was at a team hotel at the time of the alleged incident, was cleared later that week of any involvement.

“Quite honestly, this was a huge waste of our time,” Tyler says.

Police have forwarded the findings of their investigation to the Bellevue city attorney’s office and are recommending she be charged with making false or misleading statements to a public servant.

If convicted, the woman could face up to 364 days in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.
