Golf Pro Ian Poulter received a heated backlash across social media after he tweeted Tuesday that the Chambers Bay course is a farce.
The controversy made it all the way to the course’s designer. The two now have plans to meet to discuss the features of the course, and if it is really a “farce.”
As the Chambers Bay golf course goes through preparations for what is expected to draw thousands of spectators, a few golfers have given the course a try.
Poulter tweeted: “Well several players have played Chambers Bay in prep for US Open. The reports back are its (sic) a complete farce. I guess someone has to win.”
What followed was a back-and-forth over social media – some comments polite and inquisitive, and others not so much, commenting — often with mature language — about his playing ability and fashion sense.
Poulter’s comment prompted a personal invitation from Jay Blasi, of Jay Blasi Design, the architect who designed Chambers Bay.
“I’d be happy to detail all the features that make CB a complete farce for you,” Blasi tweeted back, offering a tour.
Poulter tweeted back, accepting the offer and noting that he’ll take any help he can get.
The U.S. Open is scheduled to take place June 15-21 at Chambers Bay near Tacoma.
