The second of two proposed RV “safe lots” in Seattle reportedly won’t be coming to fruition.

After being on hold for weeks, Seattle City Council member Lisa Herbold told the West Seattle blog that the Glass Yard RV safe lot announced for Highland Park will not open because it would cost too much for the 10 or fewer RVs it would serve.

This was the second of two “safe lots” proposed by Mayor Ed Murray after declaring a homeless state of emergency in November. The Ballard site, at the old Yankee Diner parking lot at Shilshole Avenue NW and 24th Avenue NW, opened in February.

The Ballard lot costs about $35,000 a month, KING 5 reports. There was also a one-time cost of $24,689 to get the area setup. About 30 vehicles are parked at the site.

King 5 reports that interim RV safe lots in SODO and Interbay will remain open an additional 60 days. These lots provide portable toilets, trash removal and late night security checks. During that time the 39 residents can receive help getting their vehicles operational in order to comply with the city’s 72-hour parking law, according to King 5.
