Man in custody after police standoff on 520 Bridge

A man is in custody after a standoff on the 520 Bridge during the Friday afternoon commute.
All lanes were blocked in both directions on the bridge for about an hour while a SWAT team and negotiators worked with the man to exit his vehicle. The standoff ended at 5:45 p.m. Crews opened all lanes by 6:20 p.m. but traffic was snarled.

A Washington State Transportation crew initially responded to reports of a vehicle broken down on the bridge.
“The gentleman inside the vehicle refused to talk to the DOT employee,” Trooper Rick Johnson explained. “We responded and he refused to get out of the car. He had a shotgun, apparently.”
Johnson said he threw the gun out of the truck, but it was unclear if he had more weapons inside.
