UW student dies after slipping on ice near campus fountain

A University of Washington sophomore was pronounced dead on Wednesday, after slipping and falling on campus east of Drumheller Fountain.
Around 10:30 a.m. on UW’s campus, a 19-year-old woman slipped and fell on a patch of ice. She sustained a serious head injury as a result of the fall, and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.
She passed away some time after being transported.
“We are all deeply stunned by this unfortunate accident,” said Major Steve Rittereiser with the University of Washington Police Department.
A next of kin notification is pending, as UWPD detectives investigate the incident further.
