As the demolition of the Alaskan Way Viaduct continues, WSDOT released a time-lapse video Monday showing the rapid progress it made on removing the Columbia Street ramp.

In the video, you can see crews removing the ramp piece by piece, a process being repeated across sections of the viaduct itself. Starting Monday, crews also began the first steps toward removing the first section of the double-deck structure.
Up until now, most of the demolition work has involved hammering away at the edges and peripheral sections of the structure. A multi-step schedule to remove the core of the viaduct kicks off this week, much in the same way the time lapse video showed for the Columbia ramp.
During this time, work zones will reduce Alaskan Way to a single lane in each direction. You can follow the full progress of the demolition on WSDOT’s track here.
