A power pole fell on a car in Tukwila along East Marginal Way Friday afternoon, causing power outages throughout the area, and tearing town multiple other poles.
It is unclear what caused the pole to come down. Only one car was struck. Two non-life threatening injuries were reported.
“What we do know is that one pole came down, the lines pulled the other poles down across East Marginal Way,” Kyle Ohashi with Puget Sound Fire told KIRO 7. “One of those poles stuck a vehicle, trapping those people in it until we were able to get the power shut off and then we were able to get to the patients and extricate them.”
As many as 10 poles were taken down. KIRO 7 reports that power has been restored to more than 16,000 people in South Seattle, Tukwila, and Burien.
KIRO 7’s Gary Horcher reports that witnesses said it was raining fairly hard when they saw a flash just before one pole started to fall. Then it was like a “domino effect” as all the other poles began to fall as well.
