A road rage incident ended in gunfire in the parking lot of a Mill Creek Safeway store overnight.

The shooting happened in the 16300 block of Bothell Everett Highway at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

It is not yet known how the road rage incident unfolded, but both drivers ended up in the parking lot where a 24-year-old man, an armed security guard for a private security company, called 911 and told dispatchers that he shot a man who pulled a gun during an altercation that started as a traffic incident.

The victim, a 60-year-old Bothell man, was shot multiple times and was taken to Harborview Medical Center. His condition is not known.

The 24-year-old man’s handgun was recovered at the scene. Detectives are searching for any firearm the shooting victim may have had and are mapping the crime scene.

The security guard is not an employee of Safeway.
