Seattle City Councilwoman Lorena Gonzalez plans to run for attorney general.

Now, as you know, Jay Inslee is going to be the next president, so somebody’s going to have to take over as governor.

Bob Ferguson, the most dangerous politician I’ve ever covered in 25 years on the air, wants to be the next governor. That’s incredibly scary, because Bob Ferguson has weaponized the attorney general’s office. He has used that office to go after everybody who is, in his perception, in the center or on the conservative side of center. He had used his office as a protection racket for everyone on the liberal side.

So, when Inslee becomes president and Bob takes over as governor, who’s going to be the attorney general?

Councilmember Gonzalez issues apology to commenter ignored at meeting

Well, Lorena Gonzalez wants to take the wondrous things this city council has done for Seattle– we don’t have any heroin problems, we don’t have any homeless people on the streets, there’s no crime, the relationship with police is fantastic — and bring that glory of Seattle to the rest of the state.

Her campaign ad demonstrates exactly what is wrong with her pursuit of the attorney general’s office.

I think it’s wonderful that she grew up the child of farm workers and became an attorney, then ran for the Seattle City Council. That’s a really inspiring life story.

Bob Ferguson, as I said, does not run the state’s highest legal office according to the law or the Constitution. He runs it according to his political aspirations and his political views. When the Seattle City Council passed an unconstitutional income tax, Bob Ferguson should have stopped it. But his political aspirations were more important to him than the job he was elected to do. And Bob Ferguson knew that saying anything against an income tax could stop him from becoming governor.

Well, Lorena Gonzalez said in this video that she wants to be attorney general so she can provide social justice. She named the groups she wants to favor — the farm workers, the LGBTQ community, etc.

That’s not the job. Your job as attorney general is not to be a social justice warrior. Your job is to uphold the Washington State Constitution and to follow the laws.

Bob Ferguson does not do that, and Lorena Gonzalez does not intend to do that. She wants to use the office to pursue her social justice mission.

We have a lot of people in government right now who — instead of defending our rights and living by the Constitution that they have sworn to uphold — view their role as controlling the social attitudes in our state.

If that’s a higher priority to you than the law, or the Constitution, then that’s dangerous. Seattle politicians really think they want to spread Seattle to the rest of the state? That is not good at all.
