Nordstrom at Northgate closed its doors on Friday

Nordstrom closed its doors at its Northgate store on Friday.
More than 170 employees were informed in June amid reports of a drop in profits. The Seattle Times reports Nordstrom has been closing about two under-performing stores each year.
Nordstrom was founded in 1901 and has its headquarters in Seattle.
The closure comes as the Northgate Mall is evolving. The 55-acre property faces a massive change with NHL plans for a 140,000-square-foot hockey practice facility for its new Seattle hockey team. Along with the change will come new retail space as well as living units. The project is expected to be completed in 2021.
Nordstrom Rack will remain open, according to Business Insider. Both Macy’s and JC Penney announced they were closing stores at Northgate, too. Penney’s has already shut its doors. Its not just the pillar stores, shoppers have been reporting the once thriving mall looks and feels like a ghost town this summer.
MyNorthwest reported in February that plans for the Northgate facility include: 400,000 square feet of retail space, 1 million square feet of office space, 953 residential units, 400 hotel rooms, roughly 7.5 acres of open space, and over 5,100 parking stalls.
