Federal Way police are investigating after the body of a man was found in the middle of a road.

It was found on southbound Pacific Highway South near South 279th Street at 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Police said a bystander flagged down an ambulance that happened to be driving by.  Medics performed CPR on the man, but he could not be revived.

It could be a hit-and-run incident since there is no car at the intersection where the man was found, and KIRO 7 video showed a mangled bicycle on the roadside, but that has not been confirmed by police.

A man who was sitting in his car told KIRO 7 he heard a thud and glass shattering.  When he drove his car over to see what happened, he saw the victim in the street.

The southbound lanes are closed for the investigation, but the northbound lanes are open.
