On the eve of a possible impeachment in the U.S. House of Representatives, rallies were held Tuesday in Seattle, Tacoma, and elsewhere across the region.

Jayapal: Impeachment ‘only remedy’ for latest Trump scandal

“Protesters demand the House of Representatives fulfill its constitutional duty by impeaching Donald Trump and that the Senate remove him from office,” a news release from Seattle organizers reads. “Congress must show that no one — including the President — is above the law.”

Concurrent rallies took place in Edmonds, Lynnwood, Bothell, Redmond, West Seattle, and Renton. You can see the full list of events here.

The House of Representatives is expected to vote this week — most likely Wednesday — on two articles of impeachment against President Trump: Abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Congressional Democrats from Washington have been outspoken in favor of impeachment, most prominently Rep. Pramila Jayapal.

“The president admitted to his wrongdoing and corrupt intent on national television — the president is the smoking gun,” she said in a recent hearing. “President Trump has solicited foreign interference before, he is doing it now, and he will do it again.”

Washington state reps divided over latest Trump impeachment vote

Washington state’s Republican representatives, though, have been less convinced.

“This is yet another example of the hyper-partisan political climate today. Instead of waiting for all the facts, House Democrats are jumping to unfounded conclusions,” said Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler shortly after impeachment proceedings were first announced.
